On October 17th, a group of Resonate volunteers served the foster community by renovating a few rooms in the Dekalb Department of Family and Children Services (DFCS) building. The DFCS building was in need of some love. The waiting area for kids had recently been vandalized, but also lacked any life, toy storage, or places for a nap. We came in to provide a much more suitable waiting area for children. The employee morale is also very low, and we wanted to communicate to the staff that there are those in the community who love, support, pray, and value them. We renovated their staff lounge to create a much more warm environment for them during their long and draining days.
It was such a great day for us to love others in the name of Jesus. We even got this note from one of their staff members that I believe reads: “I feel wanted, I feel respected, I feel I am a professional, I feel homey, I feel eager to work. Thank you for the beautification of our room.”
We look forward to continued ways to connect and serve alongside this incredible community, particularly because DFCS Dekalb is directly across the street from our new facility. If you want to support our efforts to the foster community, please give financially so we can continue to do things like this.
Below are just a few pictures of the before and afters:
